not the greatest of surprises....

...I don't know if it was a slow news day today, or whether it really is a big surprise to people, but this story about the tragedy of older (and sicker) people not getting assistance with eating and food in hospital seemed to get top billing today.

Its appalling that patients like these are not offered basic care. Its not a highly specialised medical need, its not funded by drugs companies, but eating is a key part of getting better or at least remaining comfortable. And it could be that the quality of the food is also an issue.

Gah. What next - a hot news story about too many cars on the road? about poor people in Africa? This isn't news. We know it goes on - unless you really try to ignore it. So why isn't something being done?
