a taxing business...

...amazingly it took a review of social care for older people to point out that charging for care - ie the ability to pop to the loo, or eat, or get dressed was wrong.

Now we need to spend an equivalent amount of money to show that charging disabled people is wrong too...

Charging for care, is immoral. Going to the toilet is a Basic Human Right. At present, if you are under 65 you only get financial assistance with care if you have less than about £22,000 in savings. Now I know that's a fair whack - but if you can't work, generating savings is hard going. And for those of us in our 30's savings for retirement become something of a concern...

This is probably one of my biggest bugbears about rights for disabled people. However far we have got towards job equality, even if we are meandering towards civil rights, if we live in a society where you have to pay to pee, to get help to clean your teeth and wipe your bum equality is a long way off.
